Buffet Dining

One of the best ways of having a relaxed meal at a party that you are organizing is to arrange a buffet. Rather than having to worry about the additional costs associated with a sit down meal, and have the full formal service that are required such as waiters, and a menu, with a buffet arrangement, you simply pay the caterer to produce a menu and let your guests help themselves to the food that they want.

Many caterers offer a range of different options when it comes to choosing the menu for your buffet and having a self service operation does not necessarily mean that you will have to skimp on the quality of the food that you serve to your guests.

When you have a large number of guests coming to a function, one of the main concerns that you should have is how they are going to get their food served. With a group of a hundred or more, you will need to think about having at least ten staff on hand to serve the meal if you do not want them to eat at different times. A buffet is simply served by a couple of people who ensure that everyone gets what they want and also that the dishes on display are kept topped up, so that no one has to miss out on their favorite dish.

A buffet dinner does not need to mean skimping of course; a decent catering company will be able to provide you with a full menu that can be tailored to meet the exact needs of the function. Popular choices such as ribs and chicken legs with sandwiches and quiches are perennial favorites, however you can also opt for much more exotic dishes should you want to.

Many people want to share a meal with their friends, and a buffet is a cost effective way of doing this. It is also a catering solution that offers a great deal more flexibility to guests and hosts alike. Unlike a formal served meal at a table that is served either on the plate or in a silver service style, a buffet is very much a self service affair. This means that often guests will help themselves to a larger portion than you would normally expect to give them.

When ordering a buffet, it is important not to second guess how much your guests will want to eat. A good caterer will be experienced enough to provide enough food for all of the guests that you are going to invite – they will always work to a 10% rule, and provide extra portions to cover for greedy guests. They may also have an agreement with you whereby they will not charge you for uneaten dishes – particularly if they the venue is providing the food.

The main thing is to order a meal that suits the function and is good for your guests. Choose a menu that they will enjoy, and your party will be much more of a success than otherwise. It s also a good idea to choose a caterer with experience in providing buffets, as they will be much better at delivering the best possible service as well as a delicious meal.
