Party Guest Lists
There is nothing worse than inviting a large number of people to a party and then realizing the next day that you overlooked someone. This may be no more than a simple mistake or oversight, but can cause long term problems in friendships just because you forgot to invite a friend, or a friend of a friend.
Being completely organized about your guest list is essential, because making sure that the right people come to your function will determine how successful or otherwise the whole party is. Some times you will need to invite certain people in order to keep others happy, while other people will prefer that certain guests do not come, as they will not be able to enjoy themselves in the company of each other.
The first stage in putting together a guest list for your party is to think about the people that you absolutely have to invite – close family and friends that you have known for a long time should always be invited to a function. You may also want to invite some people from work.
Depending on the kind of budget you have, it is important to think about whether you can afford to also invite partners and friends who are not so close. Once you have put together the first draft of your guest list, it is important to check through it. You may also want to get a friend to check over the list to remind you of any people that you may have missed first time around. These people might be offended if you do not invite them, so it is best to avoid forgetting them.
Once you have invited all of the people that you want to attend the party, you should keep a list of how many people have got in touch. It is better to chase around a week or so before the actual event in order to be certain who is coming to the function, and who can’t make it, as this will allow you to give the caterers the best information about how many people they need to cater for. If people have not given you a definite answer, you should assume that they are coming – even though they are being extremely rude by not telling you, it is worse not to provide them with meals.
Always remember, the most important person at a party is your guest, as the host it is your responsibility to give the people that you have invited the best possible experience, and to cater their needs as well as you can,. Making sure that you invite everyone who you want to be there is important, but it is also a good idea to think about the people that they want to be there as well. There may well be people that you do not know very well, but who can always be relied on to make a party go with a swing. Adding them to your guest list will make your party more fun for the rest of the invitees, and ensure that you get the best possible party.
